Luxor Room 6040 (Pyramid Jacuzzi Suite) Nights Stayed: Friday and Saturday Price Paid: $179 (December special) Where Booked: www.luxor.com The Jacuzzi suites are on the corners of the pyramid, two to each corner, therefore eight per floor. Each suite is shaped like a right triangle. Room 6040 is right off Inclinator 2, and seems to be one of the quieter corners (southeast). There is no casino noise when standing outside the door. Ice and vending machines are a very short walk away from the room. The room is a smoking room, but there was no smell at all. The entry is tiled and the bathroom is immediately on the left and is also tiled. Straight ahead along the long wall (the hypotenuse) are the two beds and beyond that is the Jacuzzi. Past the bathroom is a small writing desk with a small stool, then you are in the main room. Our room had two queens, single-sheeted (i.e., no sheet between the blanket and comforter. The mattresses are reasonably firm and did not sag or make noise. The clock radio does have an alarm. There is no in-room safe. The TV is located in a wooden unit with four drawers beneath it and a full-height closet unit that contains an iron and ironing board. There is the usual selection of channels, pay movies, and video games available. Channel 18 seemed to be a long "infomercial" of Blue Man Group, though there was an NBC peacock logo in the lower right corner. A very small table and two chairs are along one wall that leads into smaller sub-room that occupies the "right angle". It has its own wooden unit with TV, cabinet, and mini-fridge (empty, not one of those minibars). There is a two-person sofa, "cushion chair", and coffee table. The inclined window here makes it difficult to sit on the "cushion chair". Both this small room and the main room have floor-mounted air conditioner / heater units. The while decor is a muted brownish orange, very earthy tones. There are numerous Egyptian hieroglyphics and pictographs. The Jacuzzi is beyond the two beds, right underneath a window. Here the inclined windows do not interfere at all. Although you must step up onto a shelf to get in the Jacuzzi, for maximum safety, you won't step onto it standing up, but rather put your hands on the rim of the Jacuzzi, kneel onto the shelf, then step down into the Jacuzzi. The Jacuzzi is shaped like a four-leafed clover. Two facing petals have seats, the other two let you sit with the water up to your neck. It takes about 7-10 minutes to fill it. I didn't time how long it takes to drain. While sitting in the Jacuzzi, you can open the blind with a plastic cord (the blinds in the smaller room must be opened by hand). This room has a reasonable view of Mandalay Bay and whatever structure is being built between it and the Luxor. The bathroom is tiled. There is no tub (not that you need one!), and the shower can easily hold two. There is the usual supply of amenities (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, shower cap, but no sewing kit!-). The toilet is a low-water-usage vacuum-assisted model. The mirror is absolutely huge, two can use it at the same time. There is only one sink. A hair-drier is provided. Drawbacks: Because the bathroom is tiled, it can be a bit slippery. Watch yourself! There was no noticeable noise from the room above, or the regular room next door (because of the geometry of the room, the common wall is in the smaller room of the suite). You do share the bathroom wall, though, so keep your door closed at night and that will cut down on the noise. However, the suite shares the long wall with the Jacuzzi suite next door. The noise from filling the Jacuzzi is quite noticeable. Also, because of the tiled entry and bathroom, if someone next door to you is wearing "loud shoes", you will hear it. If you're a light sleeper, you should bring earplugs or a white noise generator.
