From: greatbrit Newsgroups: rec.gambling.poker Subject: WSOP 2003, Day 4: they finally unlocked the front door Date: Sat, 19 Apr 2003 03:31:49 -0700 The place is hopping! I assume because it's the weekend, but literally every table downstairs was being used tonight, there were even lines for satellites; rather than a mad frenzy to grab a seat at a new table, they had us wait in lines of 10 until a table was free, I liked this idea, more on that below. I think they had over 10 satellites going at once, plus some of the very popular double-shootouts too. Dave Lamb said the doubles are not hurting the supers, he is right on track with where they were last year, so this has to be a good omen for the 10K if there are people qualifying from two different directions, not to mention all the on-line site and B&Ms promos this year. I think tomorrow's 2K No Limit is going to be big, I am guessing at least 500, I think it might reach 600. I played two $225 no limit satellites today, I got heads up in one where I was outchipped 5-1, I pulled it back to 3-1 and the other guy offered me my buy-in back, but I said I'd wait and chop it if we got even. A couple of hands later he raised and I called with 66. The flop was three spades (I had none), he moved in, I called. He had K2o with the 2 of spades, the spade on the turn cost me $1,000, DOH! Then tonight I got in the new line for a satellite, I didn't like the lineup so moved to the other line where I didn't know any of them. Big mistake, that line then changed around and I soon had Jack Fox, Ron Stanley and several other scary players, but the super stars went out early and we eventually got down to three, I was chip leader. Ron suggested a save of $500 each, play for $600, but I didn't like that, one because I had a lot more chips, and two because I thought I could beat the other player. That guy went out next to Ron so he was now chip leader, 5K to my 3K, I tried for a chop of $1100 to him $1000 to me but he offered that I'd pay him $600 if I won, he'd give me $500 if he won, I took that deal and we played on. A few hands later I trapped him with my QQ and now I had him 4.5-3.5 and offered to chop it evenly (I figured it was worth it to get away from the previous deal we'd made), he agreed and I walked away with $1040, making my satellite ratio a bit healthier than it was yesterday. Tonight I played the 11pm $225 no limit and remembered the reason why I shouldn't think about playing a WSOP no limit for a while, the reason is I suck at no limit, I play great then make some dumb mistake that costs me all my chips, that's what I did tonight. They had a nice turnout, I think it was 133, maybe more, first place around 11K. I got the resolution today to the crazy rule that happened to me in the 2K limit where I was forced to call a raise I hadn't seen after putting in one chip in the small blind. The ruling was wrong, it was exactly what Gary had posted about the half bet TDA rule which refers to raising, they had lumped the calling rule in with the raising rule. Thanks to my whining they have now changed the rule so now you are forced to leave the one chip in the pot as I expected, but you don't have to complete the raise, sanity prevails. Matt said there is a list of rules available to us but I haven't seen it yet. In the latest Roshambo news, I now own Perry Friedman, he can no longer beat me at rock paper scissors, I am thinking 4 levels deep to his 3, he was the champ but now I am. I am fighting to make this a gold bracelet event. I'm not playing tomorrow, although I probably should because the money is going to be huge, but there is a PokerStars WSOP second round 800fpp qualifier I want to play to give me a chance of a 10K seat, they have one tomorrow and one next week. I'm probably going to play the pot limit holdem on Sunday although I don't think it will be anywhere near as big, but I have to play something, it's getting a bit embarrassing that I didn't win a bracelet yet.
