Subject: World Poker Open - Day 17 From: lvdlrs Newsgroups: rec.gambling.poker Date: Mon, Jan 21, 2002 10:33 PM Message-ID: <3C4D2699.FCACD82D@midsouth.rr.com> Today was a day for curiosity and curious things. In the $2000 No Limit tournament today I saw one player go all in with pocket 6's before the flop only to be called by pocket Aces. Flop came 6-5-A with no 6 on fourth or fifth street. I was watching the final table of the $2000 Limit Holdem today. They had just returned from break and playing 2-4 blind and 4 chip - 8 chip limit, each chip was a $500 check. The small blind was in for the 2 chips and had 10 more. It had been raised to 8 by the time it got back to him. He cut out the 8 and then cut the remaining 4 but with his hand still on those chips obviously thinking to go all in or not. Then he took back all but his two original chips and paused. I thought this was curious. None of the tournament officials were around as this was the first hand after a break. None of the players nor the dealer said a thing. The player ended up calling the 8 and betting the remaining 4 after a flop of 6-6-2. I wonder if he had decided to throw his hand away preflop with only the two chips out there if he would have gotten away with doing so. In a timeframe of less than 10 minutes, I saw a player bust out at the final table tournament and then go over and do the same to his stack in todays tournament. Must have really wanted to play live action I guess. Finally it was breaktime at the final table with only three stacks left. One had 120,000. One had 50,000. One had 18,000. Assuming blinds were 1500 and 3000, a reasonable payout structure and that there is no great difference skillwise between the players, what would you as the big stack (120,000) prefer to be playing right then, limit or no limit? That's it for now. Still plenty of time to make it down here and be a part of our final event starting Wednesday the 23rd and ending Sat the 26th. Don't forget to enter your guess on who the winner will be in the RGP World Poker Open contest. Taking entries until 12:01 am CST Wednesday Jan 23rd. Gary (G-man) Philips
