Subject: Sarge Report From: rmitchcoll@aol.com (RMITCHCOLL) Newsgroups: rec.gambling.poker Date: Tue, Mar 5, 2002 2:52 PM Message-ID: <20020305175237.20916.00002777@mb-cg.aol.com> As always, ARG events are more about the people then the poker and Sarge didnt disappoint. It was great seeing all the old friends and meeting all the new ones. Jimmy and the crew at the Horseshoe treated us great welcoming back the green hats for round 2. And for the first time in a long time, I did well in the poker games. I played in 5 tourneys total and made 4 final tables. I r00led both the C-HORSE and the Triple-Draw Lowball games for +650 as well as a good time. As usual the high variance low limit O8 and HE games bit my butt. Highlights of my trip: C-HORSE game- In the Crazy Pineapple (hi only) round on the second hand I have KKx. The flop comes 77K. By the time the betting is over, I have taken most of Steve's rack of white. The next hand I have JJx and a flop of J73 relieves Lin Sherman and Len Forsyth of most of their chips. The very next hand I have AdAhKh. The flop of 663 and the blanks on the turn and river fill up my second $100 profit. In the same game we get to the Razz round and Tom Overton is the first bring in with a Ten showing. He asks the limits and is told, $2 bring in or the full $4. He quickly puts $4 out and everyone asks if he realizes this is low stud. He gets a crazed look in his eyes and turns over Trip Tens and mucks. You had to be there to see his reaction. Triple Draw Lowball- This is a game usually spread at the Shoe in $300 limit or $50-100 limits. We asked Jimmy if he would spread a lower game for us to try. As usual "no problem" was the reply. We played two $5 blinds, first raise to $10 and then $10 limit the rest of the way. For those who are not familiar with the game it goes like this. Everyone gets 5 cards like regular Lowball. There is a betting round then the first discard, a betting round then the second discard, betting round then the third discard and then the final betting round and showdown. The cards hit me in the face and I won $450 in 90 minutes of play. The highlight for me was watching my schmengie sister Joan say she is defending her blind against a raise. She then tossed all 5 cards in the muck for a re-draw. I think she may even have won the hand. This was a great game that I hope we can get spread in Vegas during Barge. SARGE NLHE Tourney- I had my best ever finish (4th) in a NLHE tourney. I think I played pretty solid and had the fortune of catching some big hands. Early on I have AA and make a standard 3X (~300) raise. Len , Ice and one other player call my raise. Flop was 5A2 rainbow. I check and it gets checked around. Turn is a K and I make a $500 bet with only Ice calling. The river is a Q and I make another $500 bet, Ice pushes all in and my chips beat him into the pot. He has KQ and I have my first double up. Shortly after this I have KK and get all my chips in against a player with QQ and I get a bunch more. Shortly after this I get QQ with a board of 886 against (...) Phillips and get a bunch of his chips. I was able to parlay these chips into the 4th place finish. Finding a Player Tighter then me- Wes Tilley who made all 3 final tables at Sarge. Close second Abe Springfield who has no chance to become a Schmengie if he wont put his chips in with the worst of it :-). Best Newcomer - Jeff Davenport. He fits right in and seemed to have a blast. It was a pleasure being at the same table as him. Thank you Steve Jewett for all the work you did to make this a fun weekend. Thank you PokerStars for getting me some practice in Real Money Tournaments. Thank you Carol for putting up with the kids while I played poker and had fun. See you all next time and at other ARG events around the country. Randy Collack
