Subject: MARGE Trip Report Part I From: lvdlrs Date: Tue, 13 Nov 2001 18:04:11 GMT I finally got off shift after doing 12 and a half hours (Our heads up match tournaments start at 11:00 am and guess who's there to see that they go without a hitch) If anybody was primed for a relaxing funfilled enjoyable three days off, it was me. So it was my wife and me and our little 8 yr old off to the Biloxi Grand. The travel time took 6 hours and was rather uneventful except for the manditory highway construction nuisance every ten miles or so. One thing that kept my heart pumping fast was the way those 18 wheelers drove at times. I would think one lane was enough for them. But no, those sleepless devils have to fishtail all over the place. "Honey, how close did that $#%^& come to hitting us?" "About six inches." Finally hit Gulfport. Wife had lived there about six or seven years ago, so I naturally deferred to her direction giving. Good move there. Not. Drove all the way down to Beach Blvd instead of taking the freeway over to Biloxi. "Dear, I thought we wanted to get there as fast as we could, not take the scenic way around." "Shut up and drive." "I would like to but it's tough when you hit each and every stop light." I don't really remember how I got a bruise on my right shoulder. Hmmmm. "What's the address number of our hotel?" "262" "What'd that building say?" "7500." I knew we were getting close when we hit 300. However the next addy I saw was 161. Damn how could we have missed it? "Gary, we're on the bridge now, you can't turn around." A few miles later we're heading in the right direction again and damn, the same thing happened, no hotel. Just kept driving and finally hit the Best Western at address 900. I don't know about you but I always feel foolish when asking the hotel clerk, "Do I have a reservation here?" Turns out that was the right hotel. Hallelujah. The room was nice. It had a small refridgerator, coffee maker, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, and a small safe with key. Well worth the $138 for two nights stay. All right. We've touched base. We're here and settled in. Ready for the next three days of an almost surrealistic series of events and gatherings called MARGE. Gary (...) Philips
