Subject: Escargot 2002 From: creepshow@aol.com (Creepshow) Newsgroups: rec.gambling.poker Date: Sun, Feb 10, 2002 7:17 PM Message-ID: <20020210221716.25754.00000715@mb-mg.aol.com> Many Thanks to all those who helped organize and run ESCARGOT this year...it just keeps getting better. Started out great: got to SFO early, walked up to United counter as plane was loading for flight ~ 2 hrs before my scheduled departure....no problem. End result was I was seated at 4-8Chosel game before I was scheduled to land at LA. Small win and then to baby PL game which was just starting. I endured numerous taunts, insults, and nasty things from Steve BIA (and others): eg "You play tighter than Russ Fox"....Hell of a way to start a trip. Nonetheless I trippled up and the weekend was then a free-roll...better luck next year Steve. Limit HE event: very fun table with lots of commentary, quite a bit by Gavin, who backed it up with many chips being diverted to his stack. Traded 2-outers on the turn with Random Stu. At 4 tables had a chance to increase stack with AK vs. the blinds. sb=presto. no need to finish story. Great conversations with Michael P. over the whole weekend and as we walked up to sign up for NL on Saturday discovered we were at same table, joining Ice, Barry Tannenbaum (sp?), Chuck Humphrey, and Bill Chen. Usual soft table. Dynamics of table shifted early as Bill accidentitally gave his stack to Ice. Looked like everyone was playing for 2nd place. After ~1 1/4 hrs it was down to 3: Ice, Michael and I. I then cleverly got allin with 99 vs. Ice's ten's. I then proceeded to hand Ice the mother of bad beats: flop was 3,8, and 10. Hmm. Turn was J. I then politely asked for a Q and there it was. At first I kinda felt bad about it, but then found out Ice is an attorney: God does have a sense of humor. At any rate, Ice, Michael and I now where appoximately equal and after another ~30 minutes it was Michael and I in the heads up tournament. I played two fairly long matches and got my ass kicked. Banquet was great and John Vorhaus was a very, very good choice. Then played in a fun-filled Chosel game which included JohnV. we laid a can of WhupAss on him, but he maintained a good sense of humor and was probably proud and sad at the same time that we applied so many of his teaching points to relieve him of chips. Highlight for me: in Omaha hi/lo I raise from sb with A2s45 and bet flop of 57J rainbow. Llew gives me the most intense/penatrating/fear-inducing stare-down I have ever recieved...........and she was not in the hand. It was that kind of game. I had a great time. And I do not play tighter than Russ Fox. Looking foward to 2003-version. Best, gary
