First, thanks to everyone who came up to me to congratulate me, and especially to offer me words of encouragement. This has been a super tough year for us - financially, family-wise and emotionally. And things are super stressful right now. I appreciate everyone who listened, offered advice and encouragement, and offered other assistance. For one, it is good to know we won't be homeless even under the worst of circumstances. In some ways it was a tough BARGE because I was explaining my circumstances a lot, and it was emotionally draining, but it meant a lot to me that so many of you cared. Enjoyed many meals with ARGERs and enjoyed seeing everyone again. BARGE isn't quite the same as the mom of a toddler, but Steve is awesome about letting me spend lots of time having fun at BARGE - and I appreciate that. Also, a huge shout out to Bob Ogus. We were coming to BARGE regardless, but I may not have played anything. Bob generously paid for Steve and my BARGE tourneys and registration fee. Sadly, I did not cash once - I do think, with maybe the exception of PLO, I played well in the tourneys - but such is life. Steve was supposed to play the NL event, but poor Steve got sick and I played for him. I had fun, went deep, got my money in super good with a chance to be among the chip leaders if I won - but it was not meant to be. Other tourneys: Made it through all 25 games in the 25 game tourney and then some, but did not cash - sigh!; PLO all my moneys belong to Grapes - literally all; HORSE - I don't remember this event - guess it wasn't memorable; TOC - another deep run with no cash, sigh!!; High roller Hoser - thank you Carol and David Kluchman for putting me in - sadly I bubbled. Lost a lot of chips on an awesome bluff spot to Rich Bremer - but Rich knows how to play limit and had a set, so he wasn't going anywhere. Saturday cash - started off playing OK - loose in BARGE fashion, but I was fine with post-flop play over all. Then alcohol and lack of sleep got to me and I made some mistakes, and I tilted but also didn't want to get up. I smartly did not rebuy when my chips in front of me ran out. Sorry for my crankiness if you witnessed it. Alcohol when I am not in a good mental state is not my friend - that's why I don't drink much when things aren't going my way in life. But I did help create a new game - Holdem 21 - a split pot holdem/blackjack game. Rules still need work. But holdem plays normal. At the end of the hand, you play blackjack and pay one small bet for every hit you want to make, which goes into the pot. Closest to 21 without going over wins the BJ half of the pot. A natural is no stronger than a multi-card 21, so that half is split a fair amount. Highlights: Mav banning!!!! Just one closing comment - never tell an ARGER stakes aren't serious. I've been to BARGE super flush before and super broke before, as now. Stakes are relative. For some 2-4 and 3-6 is still serious money. And it is insulting to someone who does care about the money to tell them the stakes aren't serious. And newbies are more likely than others to be low bankrolled, especially if they are younger - don't scare them away by making them feel bad that the stakes are meaningful to them. This BARGE I chose a high variance game on Saturday - I had some luck on video poker freeplays so it was a sort of freeroll for me, but the money still mattered. I was prepared to lose it, but it also wasn't chump change, if that makes sense. Thank you Beth Even for the BARGE and Escargot memorabilia bust out gifts. Given away this BARGE 25 game: PLO: HORSE: I forget who got what here, but the first three tournaments I gave away a fish necklace, a CD of poker songs put together by ET, and a special BARGE chip (I think) TOC: To Melissa Hayden the BARGE chip set honoring rocks (I think that was the one) High Roller HOSER: To Ice a hat with tons of Escargot pins, maybe some BARGE pins too Main Event: To Steve Watanabe the BARGE chip set honoring ARGERs no longer with us There was also some apparel, an Escargot shot glass and I think a few other mementos as well that was first com and first serve on Saturday. I kept some items myself - and a few may show up next year if I discover they duplicate my own collection. It was nice to see Beth and catch up with her, and it was nice of her to donate her mementos instead of tossing them as she scales down.
