From: Ed Baker Date: Tue, 4 Aug 2015 00:11:32 -0400 Subject: [BARGE] 2015 BARGE Trip Report Heading 1: BARGE Trip Report - August, 2015 July 27th, 2015 by Ed Baker Today is already Monday night, and I haven=E2=80=99t filed a BARGE 2015 tri= p report yet. I=E2=80=99m not at BARGE and don=E2=80=99t expect to be there this ye= ar, but that won=E2=80=99t stop me from filing a trip report. I was thinking about BARG= E today and realizing what a pussy I am. And so are a lot of other former BARGE attenders (attendants?). And I=E2=80=99m not Canadian. I am at the beach for two weeks on a family vacation that stacked above BARGE [sic]. Tonight at one of the rental houses, I left the dinner group (of 20 people) and walked to Land Ho! I watched the Red Sox game, as I am want to do on vacation on Cape Cod. The game was actually exciting and it could have gone either way. Even after they blew it, they could have tied it in the ninth, down 10-7 with men on first and second. Just as I was calling for my check and getting ready for the one mile walk (if I don=E2=80=99t get lost) to the rental house, my daughter (25) came in= with her friend, Georgia. They came to drive me home! But recently before they arrived, the remaining patrons asked for the bar darts, and we ended up playing teams! We lost the first game, and we were kicking ass in the second, and that=E2=80=99s when the girls arrived. They bought some adult beverages (got carded) and there was much rejoicing. Everything was going great, with a lot of dart fun, until Allison=E2=80=99s drink was almost empty. Oh boy. Georgia was enjoying La= gunitas IPA on tap, as was I. (side note: enjoyed Limbo IPA earlier, and also, Devil=E2=80=99s Purse ESB). So I gave the rest of my Lagunitas to Gee, and= Alison had to wait for us. We eventually finished the game of darts and left. This is when the girls started talking about the hot babe dart player with whom we had been playing. She was the (attractive) bartender=E2=80=99s girlfriend. I guess= in this day and age that I have to say that the bartender is a dude. They said that she was an asshole and was making fun of me. I did remark that I knew she was a loser when she sat at the end of the bar by herself while her boyfriend worked. It reminded me of the girls that sit behind poker players. If they=E2=80=99re not losers then they=E2=80=99re getting = paid. That reminds me of a time I was at Delaware Park. One of the guys at the poker table had a girl sitting behind him, and the were playing the horses. The live horses, the poker table was at the track and they still run horses there. Not like Rockinghamn Park in NH. That place is only a poker room without live racing. And they have the track and everything. There should be live racing there. What=E2=80=99s happened to this world.\ Oh, before I forget, the girl behind the poker player was picking the horses by color or something. The two of them hit big in the first race! Not so much in the later races. But it was exciting for one race. I almost invested. So I=E2=80=99m playing poker and going outside to watch the race when it go= es off. I almost figured out how to bet at the kiosk, but I never got my money accepted. I would have lost. OK, back to BARGE. It=E2=80=99s killing me reading the messages on the Goo= gle+ Hangout - BARGE Chatter. And it=E2=80=99s only fucking Monday. Which is w= hy I=E2=80=99m filing this tri report. I haven=E2=80=99t even gotten to my travel travai= ls. Or my work woes. So let=E2=80=99s end BARGE report day #1 (Monday) on a positive note and ta= lly up the drink units: o Limbo IPA (at bar) =E2=86=90 Arrived on Cape at 4 PM o Limbo IPA (at bar) o Bud Lite (at rental house) o Maybe 2nd Bud Lite, not sure, probably nots, but maybe [visit liquor store on way to beach - smells like weed when we enter] o Sculpin IPA (on beach) o Sculpin IPA (leaving beach) o Cup of wine at dinner? o Head back to bar: Limbo IPA o Lagunitas IPA o Devil=E2=80=99s Purse ESB (bar) o Lagunitas IPA (bar) o Sculpin (home at rental) =E2=86=90 Last one at 1 AM (day divide =3D 4 AM= ) OK, back to BARGE. I was psyched to read that there was a game going before 10 AM. When I was there last year, there were no games downtown in the morning. Well, only two casinos had any games downtown, and that kind of limited the poker in the morning. I=E2=80=99m happy to imagine poker at Binion=E2=80=99s in the AM! I=E2=80=99m going to try to get a good sleep for the rest of tonight so tha= t I can enjoy the day tomorrow and continue with this trip report. Thank you, and good night. Tuesday Friday I didn=E2=80=99t write anything for the rest of the week. That=E2=80=99s w= hy it=E2=80=99s now Friday already. Allison, Ed, Adalee and I just returned home to the rental. We had a great dinner at Barb and Greg=E2=80=99s on Seabreeze. When we got home, the girls and I did a little art work while Ed didn=E2=80= =99t. Allison=E2=80=99s was very powerful. Adalee just did a little and said s= he wanted to do a bit every day so that she could capture different feelings. The weather was great today and we had over 20 people in our group on the beach. (I=E2=80=99m thinking to myself how boring this must sound, but I w= ill carry on.) There were a lot of hot babes today, and the beach was very crowded. There were also adorable little kids in front of us, and I have pictures to prove it. Rewind to this morning. Karin, Allison, Cassie, and Adalee all went to Hyannis (which Cassie pronounced =E2=80=9CHigh-Anus=E2=80=9D) to look at we= dding dresses. So Ed and I went to Ocean State Job Lot and killed time until the bar opened at 11:30. During vacation, I=E2=80=99ve been looking for Devil=E2=80=99s Purse beer. = It is a new brewery only 10 minutes from our rental house. Checking their web site, I=E2=80=99ve been trying to visit different bars that carry it. I=E2=80=99= ve had the ESB and another non-IPA, but I really wanted to try the IPA. So after Ocean State Job Lot, we went to the Red Nun in Dennis Port. They had both the ESB and the Pollock IPA. It was great! We had two and were ready to leave, but the guy next to us bought us another one. Well, we couldn=E2=80=99t insult him by not drinking it, so we drank it and bought h= im beer #6. Chris was a really nice guy and we enjoyed talking. Until he proved himself a racist while te lling a story about his visit to the Atlanta ball park. I=E2=80=99m not sure how you are supposed to respond when a casual conversa= tion at the bar turns racist due to the use of the =E2=80=9CN=E2=80=9D word. The p= ath of least resistance, which we took, involves just ignoring it and hope there are no more references. Which was pretty much what we did. It=E2=80=99s just a l= ittle awkward after talking to this guy for over an hour to suddenly have deal with that. I think we might be guilty of behaving like passive racists by taking that path. But he had bought us each a beer earlier and we weren=E2= =80=99t saying anything. Saturday I made it to Devi=E2=80=99s Purse brewing and bought two 32 oz crowlers (ca= ns - non refillable). They first purge the can with CO2, then fill it with beer from the tap, and finally attach a top with a mechanical device. It took about five minutes to prepare my two cans. The IPA was $10 and the DIPA was $15. Sunday Stayed off the beach for the first time. I watched the Red Sox game at home and enjoyed the solitude. Everyone wondered why I was not at the beach. I don=E2=80=99t think they will understand. Monday Today is Monday. I=E2=80=99m going to file this trip report on the BARGE l= ist. It is pretty lame. Thanks for reading until the end. The big question is, what about next year.
