Subject: [BARGE] Trip Report

I usually keep really good notes but this year I punted. So let me just
start with a big thanks to all the organizers, BOD members and
official/unofficial event organizers and helpers. Having organized MARGE for
5 years and doing a few unofficial BARGE thingees I do realize how hard it
is to make it look that easy. Thanks as always to Binions staff for getting
us. And most of all thanks to the best poker wife in the world who let me
take 10 days in Vegas without her 2 weeks after we closed on a new house.
(Carol will be back next year for sure).

 

So on to my trip…I suck at poker. On the other hand I r00l the Calcutta and
Unmutual. I arrived the Friday before Barge and was stuck half my trip
bankroll in 3 days. I didn’t cash in any tourney and barely booked a winning
ring game session. Try as I might, I could not eat or drink my way even…
though I tried with 6 bloody mary shooters at Big Als on Friday night

And KK < T9 ..down half my stack. Stupid game...the only winning move is not
to play :-)

 

And after Bayz brutally sucked out on my QQ with his T on the river (TT ) I
took solace with food

 

Double double animal style with fries at In n Out. I may suck at poker but I
win at lunch

 

And so it continued until Wednesday night when I managed to luckbox my way
to a 5th place finish in the 6 game tourney winning $655 including the ADB
last longer. After that I won a little, lost a little, won a little. I went
to the unofficial Calcutta as a syndicate of me, myself and I. I offered
Alan Veach a chance to share in my bidding but he pussed out. Bidding
against the marauding hordes of syndicates  I managed to buy 3 sets of
triplets for $50 each. I think they were:

Barry, Carol K and David Lawful—all 3 cashed including winner David Lawful

I also bought Connie and I think one other player who cashed. After sell
backs and payments I netted around $500 profit.

 

In the Unmutual I bought 8 pairs of players all for win place and show. I
spent $48 here and after my Lawful pick won I was handed $200 by Mr. Un. I
will be taking applications for membership in my syndicate of 1 next
summer…many will strive, few will be chosen J.

 

Bottom line is by the time I dropped $200 playing PLO Saturday night I was
only stuck $1000 and feeling like I won a million.

 

Mark Trombley wrote a few years ago that Barge was becoming like Ground Hog
Day (the movie). Each year just the same as the previous year. I started
feeling the same way. So this year I did different things. No banquet, but
dinner with George and Ross at Oscars instead. No Big Als with the crew. I
joined Lenny, Rick, Holly and the Stines for pizza Tuesday at Grimaldi’s
after passing in the past when Carol joined them. I slept in on Egg &I and
went up strip a bit for Cuban Coffee at the Florida Café a few times just to
relax. I played the crazy locals Omaha high game at Boulder Station with
Bayz and Troell. I did just enough different things to add some spice.

 

So that’s about it. It was wonderful seeing everyone again and I am looking
forward to 2014.
