Date: Mon, 1 Aug 2011 14:33:49 -0700 From: Bree Goldman Subject: [BARGE] pre-BARGE trip report My BARGE got started a little early, with a group dinner at Ping Pang Pong on Sunday night (thanks for organizing, JP!). 9 of us met there for dinner, then regrouped at the Orleans for their weekly 7pm HORSE tournament. We got a $20 last longer going, and as I was collecting the money I was asked by no less than 6 non-BARGErs if they could participate. We wound up with a 19-way last longer, and certainly could have gotten more if we had wanted! The tournament had a total of 73 runners. When we were down to 30, 13 of the last-longers were still in (including 4 of the non-BARGErs). When we broke to 2 tables there were 6 of us (5 and 1), and 3 of us made the final table (my dad, me, and the 1 remaining non-BARGEr). We did a mini-save when we got down to 9, everyone got their $20 back and we played for the remaining $200. My dad and I both got off to a slow start, with each of us winning exactly one hand in the first H round, and then nothing until the S round. After the first break we both rallied and chipped up a lot in the H and O rounds. I had two big hands of note. Just after moving to a new table, in the S round, I got in 3 bets on 3rd with (KQ)K against two short stacks. I caught a Q on 4th and got the rest of their chips in - the bigger stack had (AA)T, neither of them improved and I busted both of them. Shortly thereafter I busted another guy from my new table (pretty standard hand, I honestly can't remember what I had or how it played out), only to realize that 5 of the 8 of us at that table were in the last longer, and I had just busted the 3 who were not. The other big hand was at two tables, just before the last break, where I completed in the E round with (Ah8h)4h, and got played back at by a shortish stack with a face card showing. I caught a low heart on 4th, and somehow managed not to get it all in there, but after discussing the hand with my dad I understand that I should have gotten a lot more aggressive at this point. In any case, I caught my 5th heart on 7th, she didn't make a low, and I busted her too. I was chip leader at the last break, though by the time we redrew for the FT my dad had built up a monster stack. He drew the seat directly to my left, and we proceeded to crush the opposition. We did get it in against each other once, in the last O round, where he flopped top 2 and a low, and I had bottom set. Fortunately for me we chopped that one - at least it proved to the rest of the table that there's no soft play in the Goldman family! My dad and I wound up chopping heads up - he got a little more than me, as he had me outchipped by something like 3:1... I definitely got the better end of that deal! I took home ~$1100 plus $100 from the last longer, which we also chopped. What a great way to kick off BARGE :) ...Bree
